Day two of the TDGX fantasy baseball draft saw ROTOscouting select three more players including Pirates phenom Gerrit Cole (23), Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo (24) and Athletics shortstop prospect Addison Russell (20). Through the first six rounds, the team’s elder statesman is Pedro Alvarez at 27. A breakdown of rounds 1-3 can be found HERE. The youth movement caused Ben Carsley to tweet;
Since his 2005 debut, Felix Hernandez has been an elite Major League pitcher. From 2008 through 2013, “King Felix” has been top five in innings pitched, ERA, FIP, HR/9 and WAR. We throw the word ‘ace’ around too often, but Hernandez is one due to his combination of skills and consistency.
The Dynasty Guru Experts League draft (TDGX) sped through its first three rounds yesterday with team ROTOscouting selecting 1-17, 2-24 and 3-57. Didi Gregorius and Chris Owings are competing to be Arizona Diamondbacks’ Opening Day shortstop. Gregorius entered Diamondbacks camp with an advantage due to being a superior defender with a year of big league experience. However, the Dutch shortstop’s late season offensive struggles, coincided with Owings’ summer of awesomeness. Hence, the competition.
In Reality Fantasy Baseball, my Mike Trout fantasy came true. Having never owned the Los Angeles Angels superstar, inheriting him from a previous owner had me thinking championship from day one. Andrelton Simmons was better than anticipated in 2013. Pairing elite defense with surprising pop, the Atlanta Braves rewarded their budding star with a 58-million dollar extension, locking Simmons up through the 2020 season. It was the icing on an off-season cake which saw extensions given to a core of young stars including Freddie Freeman, Jason Heyward, Julio Teheran and Craig Kimbrel.
