Daily Fantasy Baseball Diamonds: 4/15/14
Monday night, I recommended Chris Owings, Domonic Brown, Ryan Howard and Devin Mesoraco. The four players combined for $11,400 in salary. In daily fantasy baseball, they’ve combined for 21.75 points with the Reds catcher having a chance for more. Today’s picks include a bargain basement starting pitcher, catcher, shortstop and outfielder with excellent match ups at home. Monday through Friday, I’ll research the day’s best daily fantasy baseball bargains, so readers can load the lineup with stars. Save time and make money with our picks.
Yordano Ventura, SP, Kansas City Royals
Ventura dominated in his first outing and faces an Astros team which struck out 768 times at home in 2013 — 61 more than the next closest team. Chris Carter and Matt Dominguez were inexplicably terrible at home and both Dexter Fowler and Jose Altuve are better against left-handed pitchers. Tonight might as well be Ventura versus Jason Castro in a one-on-one game of home run derby. This season, the Astros’ triple slash line as a team is .189/.262/.354. For $5,300, he’s a must start capable of double-digit strikeouts and a win.
Chris Denorfia, OF, San Diego Padres
In daily fantasy baseball, it’s difficult to find legitimate value for $2,500 or less. Denorfia would be a must start tonight at $4,000 given his situation match up this evening. At home versus LHP, Denorfia produced at 61% above league average in 2013. The opposing pitcher, Franklin Morales has a career 4.38 xFIP on the road. It’s the perfect day for Denorfia to chip in 5-8 points.
Everth Cabrera, SS, San Diego Padres
As my spreadsheets have grown, I’ve begun using more players like Cabrera at home — even if the ballpark isn’t hitter friendly. In 2013, the Padres shortstop produced at 30% above league average in PETCO against LHP. On a day with iffy shortstop plays in daily fantasy baseball, Cabrera is the best bang for the buck ($3,000) — especially with his stolen base ability.
Josmil Pinto, C, Minnesota Twins
At $3,200, Pinto is a must start today. In his brief career, the Twins catcher has posted a 198 wRC+ at home — nearly twice the league average. Today, he’ll face Brandon Morrow and his career xFIP of 4.44 on the road. It’s a great match up for the offense-first back stop.
Rounding Out The Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup With Stars
Today, my daily fantasy baseball lineup includes Shin-Soo Choo, Chris Davis and Mike Trout. Each posted a situational wRC+ of 180 or higher in 2013. When bargain basement picks are offered so readers can fill the lineup out with stars, know I’m doing the same thing.
